Celebrate “Help, Hope and Healing” at the Cancer Support Center’s Spring Walk of Hope and 5K Fun Run

Stand, Walk, Or Run in Solidarity with Those Battling Cancer

Most people’s lives have been touched by cancer, either through a personal battle or standing by a loved one diagnosed with the disease. The Cancer Support Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those touched by cancer, assists in making the cancer experience bearable for patients and their families. The Center will hold its 3rd annual Spring Walk of Hope and 5K Fun Run to raise funds and awareness for the organization’s many free programs and services. Participants can choose to register for a one or three mile walk or a 5K run. The event will take place Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Mokena Community Park District.

The Cancer Support Center believes a healthy dose of community support goes a long way in the fight against cancer. The spirit surrounding the event is “help, hope and healing,” so participants will show their support with a smile and cheer, as patients unable to walk longer distances due to treatment will participate in the symbolic 10-Step Walk. Following the races, the all walker/runners will enjoy live music, face painting, clowns, food and refreshments. Proceeds from the event will go to sustain The Cancer Support Center’s mission of providing wellness and support programs at no charge to cancer patients of all ages.

The Cancer Support Center believes that treating the whole person, not just the illness, is the key to coping with and battling cancer. The organization located in Mokena and Homewood, offers counseling, networking and support groups for patients and families, bereavement guidance, educational classes and seminars, and mind and body classes, including meditation, massage, and Reiki.

The Spring Walk of Hope is not subject to weather, so report rain or shine to the Mokena Community Park District located at 10925 LaPorte Road. Please note the schedule for race times:

  • Registration: 10:30am
  • Kick-off Ceremony: 11:30am
  • All Walkers Start: Noon
  • Celebration of Hope: 12:15pm

Participants are invited to create their own fundraising page to enlist the help of family and friends in reaching the goal of $100 per walker. Awards will be presented on the day of the event to top fundraisers.  The title sponsors for this event are Ingalls Health System and Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
