900 Gallons of Oil Leaked in Mokena: Forces Pipeline Shut-Down
U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is investigating the cause of equipment failure.
About 900 gallons of oil that leaked from the Enbridge storage tank in unincorporated Mokena is being cleaned up today.
The U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is investigating the cause of the Nov. 20 equipment failure.
According to a story posted at 11:48 a.m. today in the Chicago Tribune, the pipe line of crude oil that provides a supply between Mokena and Superior, Wis., incurred damage that was contained within the tank berm. Any environmental impact is suspected to have been minimal, said a U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration spokesperson.

On Enbridge's website they stated 900bbls not 900 gallons; big difference between the two numbers, 900bbls = 41580 gallons. This probably should be corrected as the company who owns the site has stated otherwise... No work done by the writer, only a link of disinformation and a summary of the linked/prior article? Is anyone capable of doing their own work anymore or is this practice just normality for journalists, the new status quo? My wife and I live just across I-80 from the site and for the last couple of days we have had some pretty bad headaches for no apparent reason, I wonder if this may have been the cause or just an ironic causal relationship…

900 bbls equals 37800 gallons. A barrel in the oil industry is 42 gallons, not 52 gallons.

I can tell you that other than unexplained headaches we didn't even smell oil or anything of the sort. The only indication of the incident (other than this article) was yesterday when we had driven by the facility late yesterday afternoon and there was a lot of activity going on at the site. Definitely weird though. I can talk to some of my neighbors and see if they had any of the same experiences over the last few days. If others have also shared similar symptoms I may agree to an interview, but only if there appears to be a relationship between the event and the mysterious headaches.
