And Mokena Patch's Person of the Year is ...
Find out who our readers selected as 2012's Patch Person of the Year.
During the past few weeks, Mokena Patch readers submitted their nominations for Person of the Year and cast their votes.
Now, the votes have been tallied and the winner is ... community organizer Marisa Barnas.
"She doesn't think twice about helping anyone out! She's so giving of herself and her time! Great person!" wrote Patch commenter Bonnie O'Neill.
Barnas received 41 votes, which is 53 percent of the total votes cast.
The runner up was Mokena School District 159 Board Member Mark Franchesini, who received 25 votes.
Patch's Person of the Year is determined solely by the readers of Patch. Nominations are reader submitted and the winning nominee is determined by reader votes.
Voting for Mokena Patch's Person of the Year is a way to recognize people who are involved in the community and work every day to improve Mokena for residents, whether it be through service work and volunteering, community leadership or something as simple as spreading joy and positivity with an optimistic attitude.
Mokena Patch will publish a story about Barnas' contributions to the community in the coming weeks.
This story is one way for us to highlight all the great work going on in Mokena. The other nominees should be commended for their giving spirits as well.
