Reaction from Southland residents to the the Affordable Care Act being passed by the Supreme Court.

Love it or hate it, the Affordable Care Act still gets to stick around after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the measure, which requires citizens to have health insurance, is constitutional. And love it or hate it, Lincoln-Way residents were talking about the decision and concerned and interested on how it will affect them.

POLL: What Do You Think About the Obamacare Ruling?

Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox gave the following statement about the ruling:

Today's Supreme Court decision lifts a heavy burden for area residents who need access to health coverage. Now, the entire healthcare community—hospitals, physicians, patients and purchasers, must work together to implement even better-coordinated, high-quality care. As a 100 Top Hospital for 7 years, Silver Cross has already implemented several quality improvement programs, improved patient safety and infection control, and reduced unnecessary utilization and readmissions. Our goal continues to be to improve outcomes and lower costs for patients."]

Patch also talked to L-W residents who felt strongly about the outcome. Here's what some of them had to say:

  • "It's unfair, and not right," said Mokena resident Phil Kostanski. "The government shouldn't be able to force you to do anything."
  • "I'm on Medicare, so it really doesn't bother me," said Frankfort resident Chuck Caruso. "I can see why some people might be upset, but as long as it doesn't affect me–I'm okay with it."

rather be taxed for this instead of paying our local school administrators high pensions.you think making 150-250k a year and not having to pay into SS,free cell phones, free lunch, they could aford there own retirement. I KNOW YOU ALREADY PAY A HUGE 9% OF YOUR PAY. oh ya your salary was padded to give you a extra 9% so you pay nothing.
