Drives at George Dunne Voted Most Intimidating in the Southland

Some golf courses offer tougher drives than others—and Patch asked its readers which ones leave them holding their breath after the ball leaves the tee.

When it comes to playing a round, golf courses in the Southland range in difficulty from "I got this," to "How in the heck...?" Your favorite courses offer the perfect mix of straight shots and tough doglegs.

The tough shots leave golfers shaking in their cleats and pensively eyeing the ball on the tee.

Patch asked its readers which courses offer the most intimidating drives, and after two weeks of voting, a winner has emerged.

Oak Forest's George W. Dunne National Golf Course Forest Preserve was voted as having the toughest drives around.

George Dunne received about 18 percent of the votes, and one reader noted in the comments that the fourth hole, in particular, was pretty tough. The feedback helped push Dunne ahead of its competition.

What do you think: Did our Patch readers get it right?

Boy, is this ever true. The drives on 4, 11 and 18 are all terrifying. Not to mention how easy it is to lose a ball on 1. And 6 has a huge pond right that swallows everything. The breather holes are 8 and 16, where you don't have to drive.
