Election 2012: Was Mokena an Obama or Romney Town?

The president captured his home state in the Nov. 6 election, but how did he fare in Mokena?

If Mokena residents had their way, Nov. 6 would have been all about the newly-elected President Mitt Romney.

However, President Barack Obama got the nod nationwide.

The total number of votes cast in all 13 Frankfort Township precincts along with the two New Lenox Townships precincts came out in favor of Mitt Romney, who garnered 6,184 ballots compared to 4,284 for Obama, according to data released by the Will County Clerk's Office.

Not a single precinct in Frankfort or New Lenox Townships had Obama as the victor.

The biggest vote getter for Romney was Frankfort Township Precinct No. 17 where Republican ballots out-numbered Democrats by more than 100 percent. Voters there cast 715 votes for Romney compared to 315 for Obama. In Frankfort Township Precinct No. 68, the vote was 510 for Romney compared to 289 for Obama.

The smallest gap between the candidates was 97 ballots. In Precinct No. 8, the re-elected president garnered 368 votes compared to 465 for Romney. In Precinct No. 4, the gap between the president and his challenger was 98 votes. Of a total of 794 ballots cast in Precinct No. 4, 348 went to Obama and 446 went to Romney.

I'm proud to live in Mokena, have been since 1990 when I moved in.
Nice to know that the majority of the people of Mokena and New Lenox Township share my voting views. So many have stopped by my business and let me know.
47% of America didn't like the turn out of the past election, let's remember that.
Thanks Ann, your article it's helped ease the pain.
But not as much as we will endure the next 4 years or beyond.

Terry, I'll bet you showed much more optimism after voting in G W Bush for a second term, even when it was obvious he lied about WMD'S and had the economy headed for disaster. It's funny you mention the 47%, aren't these the voters Mittens thought were worthless? Please tell us what your business is so us "Liberals" can take our money elsewhere.

I'm always amazed at the "Majority" with all the brains that voted for the Boosh/Cheney disaster twice and repeat verbatim from Fox. Brains are not something you sit on.
