Holiday Shopping: Black Friday Deals in and Around Mokena

You don’t have to travel far to find a good Black Friday sale.

It's a blessing that turkey triggers Thanksgiving Day naps, because you'll need all the rest you can get before tracking down early-morning bargains on Black Friday. Traditionally known to shoppers as the true beginning of the holiday shopping season, numerous stores will offer special deals on Friday, Nov. 26.

But you don't have to go to the mall to find a great deal. Some of the best bargains are right here in Mokena (at stores that open at a reasonable hour).

  • The Little Guys Home Technology is opening at 9 a.m., and every single item in the store is on sale through the weekend. On Friday, special sales include a combination receiver package for $599, marked originally at $1,400; a Sony 14-inch LED TV for $799, marked originally at $1,700; a Sharp 22-inch LCD TV for $349; screen cleaners for $10 and all headphones 25 percent off.  That includes brand-name headphones that normally aren't included in sales.
  • Ace Hardware opens at 7 a.m. and the sale lasts through the weekend. Three of the biggest deals include a DeWalt dual-speed, 18-volt cordless drill for $89.99 with rebate; infrared bistro grills, gas or electric, for $99.99; and a cordless combo drill and impact drive kit with case for $149 after rebate. Ace also sells Craftsman tools now, and for $9.99, customers can score a tool bag, an LED flashlight and more. Coupons for 50 percent off one item less than $30 on Saturday and $10 off a purchase of $50 or more on Sunday are available on fliers and online.
  • JCPenney opens at 4 a.m. Friday and has more than 400 door-buster specials going on from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can find sale items in all the clothing departments, along with handbags, accessories, bedding and bath, window, furniture, kitchen, toys and more. Just to keep warm this winter, you can score coats at 65 percent off, cold-weather accessories 50 to 60 percent off, sleepwear 50 percent off and boots between $20 and $30.
  • The New Lenox Walmart specials begin at midnight and include super sales in the toys, apparel and home departments until 5 a.m., when the electronics specials begin. Major deals include laptop computers for $200 to $300, a 32-inch LCD HDTV for $198, bikes starting at $29, jeans for $10 and kids' clothes for $4. If you want to brave the crowds at Orland Square, the mall opens at 5 a.m. and includes specials in all the major stores, such as Macy's, Carson Pirie Scott and Apple.

More local deals:

  • An English Garden is offering a buy one/get one special on Black Friday. Customers get one item in the store free when they purchase another item in the store.
  • Cottage Creations is offering a 10 percent discount.
  • 2nd Wind Exercise Equipment opens at 8 a.m., and everything on the floor is marked down in price.
  • At Clock Tower Gifts, if you purchase a decorative clasp for a Trollbeads sterling silver bracelet, you get the bracelet free, which is a $40 value. This sale runs through Christmas.
  • At Pink Slip Boutique, everything in the store is 40 percent off. This is one of only two sales that the store offers each year. Through Nov. 27, the store also is offering 10 percent off to any customer who brings in a non-perishable food donation for the Frankfort Township Food Pantry.
  • Ashley Furniture Homestore opens earlier and closes later on Friday, with deals throughout the store. However, they won't know what these deals are until the corporate office lets them know, spokespeople said.
  • Triple Threat Sports is offering some major sales, but customers need to come in to find out what they are.
