I Love Mokena: A New Market in Town

The Mokena Downtown Merchants Association will bring live music and more vendors to a new Front Street market starting April 28.

Welcome back.

Anyone that's kept up with the local media outlets is well aware that there will be a change regarding the Saturday open air market in downtown Mokena.

For the last 10 years the market, formerly referred to as "the French Market," has set up shop at the west end of the Front Street Metra Station. The market was typically open from April to October.

Starting April 28th there will a new Market in town, organized and managed by our own Mokena Downtown Merchants Association. This new market will actually take place on Front Street, between Wolf Road and Mokena Street.

The MDMA is planning on expanding and diversifying the weekly event, including live music and a heavy presence of vendors from within the Mokena business community. Along with that they will continue the practice of securing vendors from nearby communities and other states.

They're promoting a hometown feel, a sense of community pride and the opportunity to showcase Front Street and downtown Mokena businesses.

They've waited 10 years for the chance to show Mokena what they can do. You just have to love it! See you there.

Well, now that we no longer are restricting a portion of the parking in the Metra Lot on Fridays with the possibility of having your vehicle towed if you aren't there by 6:00 P.M. and thus incurring another charge - towing bill - this should encourage all of you to attend the Market and see what this involved group of Downtown Merchant's has done in a relatively short period of time. There is great attendance at the market - the vendors all seem to be well pleased with the new set up and the residents of the Village seem to be enjoying all of the different types of vendors and their products for sale. We plan to continue pursuing more and different vendors for the market and hope that all of you enjoy our efforts. It is a lot of work and Barbara should be commended for her efforts in diligently calling and contacting more and different vendors. Stop by on Saturday morning and see Barb and tell her how much you appreciate her efforts.Thank you each and every one of you who has been to the market and has voiced your pleasure of the new market.
