I Love Mokena! Look Who's Turning 1!
I Love Mokena columnist Don Labriola celebrates the one-year anniversary of his weekly addition to Mokena Patch.
Vacation is over, time for the next edition of "I Love Mokena". Today is a special edition. It has been one year since I began writing the I Love Mokena column. And what a year it has been.
My goal at the beginning was to enlighten and inform my fellow residents and Mokena Patch readers about the people, organizations and businesses that make Mokena a beautiful little village. To that extent I believe that I'm on the right path, and what a long and interesting path it is.
We've shared plenty in the last twelve months, including many stories about the generosity and hard work that is the hallmark of our village and residents. Whenever and wherever the need arises, you can count on the good citizens of Mokena to be there, lending a helping hand, no matter what the task may be.
There has been discussion about the very origin of the name Mokena, unique as a municipality in America but with ties to greatness and notoriety throughout the world.
Businesses of all types are located in Mokena. Some even serve as world headquarters for large corporations, but it is the locally owned companies that are closest to our hearts.
We've talked about the hopes and dreams of those that call Mokena home. Many already achieved, others a work in progress.
Some of the most popular columns discussed the desire for various types of business establishments to locate here. Many suggestions were for well known places and a few certainly surprised and intrigued us.
We've even broached the subject of Mokena royalty. And probably the most unexpected but near miraculous is the story of the new Mokena Downtown Merchants Saturday Market.
With the help of research, readers and colleagues I have compiled quite an interesting list of topics for the upcoming year, with many more stories and anecdotes demonstrating why we love Mokena.
I would also like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to Mokena Patch editor Lauren Traut. Her steady hand at the helm of our local online publication has been a huge influence on the success of Mokena Patch and I Love Mokena.
I can tell you from personal experience that Lauren truly loves Mokena.
