Happy Paczki Day. Or Happy Five Days Before Paczki Day, depending.
As we wrote about last year, people differ on which day is the actual Paczki Day, the one day of the year for the traditional and decadent Polish pastry. Some say it's Fat Thursday (today), others say it's Fat Tuesday (Feb. 21 this year).
At Mokena's Fleckenstein's Bakery, you can get your paczki (poonch-key) both today and Fat Tuesday, but only on those days.
It's $1.29 per paczki for ones filled with apple, apricot, blueberry, cheese, cherry, custard, lemon, prune, raspberry or strawberry jelly. It's $1.99 for fresh strawberry paczki.
The deadline to order Fleckenstein's paczki for Fat Tuesday is Feb. 19.
Although Mokena's Polonia Catering isn't selling paczki today, there's still time to order for Fat Tuesday.
If you order by Feb. 18, it's $1.05 per paczki. After that, it's $1.15.
Their paczki come in 17 flavors: apple, apricot, blueberry, buttercream, cheese, cherry, chocolate buttercream, custard with chocolate frosting, custard with powdered sugar, lemon, peach, pineapple, plain, poppyseed, prune, raspberry and strawberry.
You can pick up paczki at Polonia from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, or 7 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21. For $5, you can have orders of two dozen or more delivered to your office if you're within five miles of the store.
Lucky for us, if you're in Mokena, you do!
