7A Football: L-W East Too Much for Providence Catholic
Griffins 24, Celtics 14. Lincoln-Way East continues its undefeated season in an area battle.
In the highly touted matchup between area powerhouses Lincoln-Way East and Providence Catholic, the Griffins defense dominated another game to push East to the Class 7A quarterfinals with a 24-14 win.
East jumped out to an early lead and seemed to put the game away until Providence scored a couple of times late. Still, it wasn't enough to knock off the undefeated Griffins, who forced two safeties.
Providence finishes the season at 8-3. Lincoln-Way East is 11-0 and will have another home game next week against No. 2 Edwardsville.
If you missed the game, you can catch the replay on Comcast's CN100 Game of the Week. Read our Local Voices section for more information.

Okay I go to Providence. Yea it was a great game and yes East beat us. All i have seen on facebook from all of the people I know is saying congrats to east and saying how much we enjoyed going to the games this year. Our season is over but just like people stay with the bears, sox, cubs, blackhawks, bulls, etc I will always stay with my school and the people that go to lincolnway will stay with the griffins. I hope they do well. I am so sick of seeing lincolnway east students swearing and using innapropriate sexual references to show that they beat us. I think that it is very unsportsman like. Excuse for Losing* btw? nobody made an excuse. We didnt play well and East did. Its that simple. Why cant everyone just get along...

Providence fans were swearing and throwing glo sticks at east band members. Both sides need to clean up their acts, Providence and Lincoln way are class schools and should act accordingly

They need to give all the private schools their own class in the playoffs.
