A Mokena man, who was picked up after crashing his car, tussled with a Frankfort Police officer Wednesday after initially being charged with driving under the influence and released, according to reports.

Adrian C. Garcia, 25, of the 19800 block of South Schoolhouse Road in Mokena, was charged with DUI, improper lane use, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and felony aggravated battery to a police officer. He was booked into Will County Jail, where he's currently being held without bail.

Frankfort Police officers found Garcia and his car at 1:05 a.m. Wednesday in a ditch near the intersection of Steger Road and Five Oaks Drive, said Cmdr. Kevin Keegan. Garcia said he had lost control of his car and drove into the ditch, said Keegan, who added that Garcia refused medical treatment at the scene.

While questioning him, officers noticed Garcia slurring his words and the smell of alcohol on his breath, Keegan said. Garcia admitted to drinking earlier in the night and failed a field sobriety test, which is when he was taken into custody and brought to Frankfort Police headquarters for processing, Keegan added.

After the booking procedures were finished, Garcia was told he could call for a ride home, according to Keegan. That's when Garcia became agitated and pushed one of the officers. The two got into a small scuffle until another officer told Garcia to put his hands behind his back or he would be tasered, Keegan said. Garcia relented, and he was transported to Will County Jail.

The officer complained of injuries to his left wrist and chest after the brawl, and he was taken to St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields for treatment, Keegan said. His injuries weren't serious, and he was released, according to Keegan.
