Mokena Native Dedicates Spring Break to Service
Cornell College student Dan Carney will be helping out at-risk youths in Chicago during his spring break.
To Mokena’s Dan Carney, spring break means a lot more than a week of revelry and bacchanal in Cancun.
He’s one of almost 100 Cornell College students participating in Alternative Spring Break—a different, service-based take on the notorious college tradition.
This year, Canary will travel to the Carole Robertson Center & Holy Family Ministries in Chicago to help at-risk youths during the ten days he’s off.

It's great to see young people think about things other than the latest iPhone. Service to the community is such a rush- very rewarding. You meet some really great people, as well.
Keep up the great work.
