Santa Claus is the highlight of the Mokena Christmas Parade.

As part of the Mokena Christmas Fest, the community and its leaders came out Nov. 17 to ring in the Christmas season at the Mokena Christmas Parade.

Kids and parents lined the street in an evening celebration along Front Street. A parade of floats sponsored by local businesses, church groups, organizations, the Mokena Fire Protection District and, of course, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, reindeer and Frosty the Snowman.

This quaint celebration has been a Mokena tradition for more than 20  years. It was capped by a Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Front Street Train Station. Mayor Joe Warner not only served as emcee, he joined in the Christmas carrols.

The Lincoln-Way East Blue Notes got the crowd in the right mode by singin some favorite carrols, while onlookers enjoyed hot chocolate and popcorn.
