The Mokena Chamber of Commerce Community Business Expo & Health Fair had a full house Saturday.

More than 60 vendors set up exhibits to entertain, instruct, share information and promote their wares at the annual Mokena Chamber of Commerce event at The Oaks Recreation & Fitness Center, 10847 LaPorte Road. The showcase of businesses came with entertainment too from the Lincoln-Way East Madrigal Singers and Family Martial Arts, 8500 W. 191st St.

Chamber Administrator Gail Bastas described the expo as a place where "local businesses will showcase their services and products." They came from Mokena, Tinley Park, New Lenox and Frankfort.

About 350 people took advantage of the day, said Bastas.

Was at the Expo and noticed that Mokena Clerk Patricia Patt is using the same photo at her political Mokena 2013 booth that she has at the Village of Mokena booth , and I was wondering how is this legal ? The photo at the Village Booth also had a VOTE button on it so it really seems like she crossed the line. Did'nt the Southtown Newspaper run an article about the Tinley Park Incumbents using their Official Photo's Innapropriately and force them to change the pictures ? Anna maybe you could call the Southtown and find out about this ?

Hi Do it Right,

I took a look at the Southtown article from Tinley and, in that instance, incumbent candidates were using taxpayer-funded portraits on their campaign website.

The opposing candidates filed a complaint alleging improper use of photos, but it appears the pictures were removed before there was any kind of action or ruling, so, whether this is actually illegal is unclear. The Tinley official involved in the photos' removal said that they were not removed in response to the complaint.

In the case of Clerk Patt, I think it would depend on whether or not the photo was paid for by the village, but even then, it's uncertain whether this would constitute any kind of illegality, as it appears that the state board never did put forth a ruling on the Tinley case.

Thanks for reading,
Anna

The Mokena Chamber of Commerce Community Business Expo & Health Fair was just fantastic! It was great to see so many businesses come out to meet with community members! The Chamber always does such a nice job and I would like to thank the Chamber for being a strong supporter of the community!

Anna, If Mokena taxpayers paid for Clerk Patt's Official photo she cannot use it for political purposes . Call the Attorney General Public Integrity Unit 312/814-1134 and they will tell you she cannot. My tax money paid for the official photo and I don't approve of her using it for political purposes . A simple phone call and you will have your answer. Tax money cannot be used for political purposes.
