Report: Judge Will Decide Soon on 6 Democratic Will Co. Board Candidates

Candidates in five districts, including those serving Frankfort and Mokena, were knocked off the ballot in July after officials said they violated election codes. The state appellate court could rule this week, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A state appeals judge could rule this week on the case of six Democratic candidates for Will County Board who were removed from November's ballot, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The candidates were knocked off the ballot in late July after the Will County Electoral Board ruled that party leaders did not give proper notice for a meeting where the candidates were nominated. A Will County Circuit Court judge upheld that ruling in August, the report stated.

Candidates who were removed include Mario Carlasare, of Frankfort, who was running in District 2; and Santino Lettieiri and John Sanchez, both of Mokena, who were running in District 12.

If the candidates remain off the ballot, many Republican county board candidates—including District 2's Jim Moustis, board chairman, and District 12's Margo McDermed, wife of GOP chairman Ed Ronkowski, who also is a lawyer representing those who feel the Democratic Party violated election code—running unopposed come Election Day.

The board is currently Republican-led, and the three-member Will County Electoral Board has a Democratic majority, the report stated.

YOUR TURN: Do you think the Democratic candidates should be put back on the ballot? Is this a legitimate infraction of election law? Or is it just another case of partisan politics? Or both? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

This election board has a history of using their power to knock anyone off the ballot they don't like. They even will knock off a good Republican if he or she will not play ball with them.
