Sharon Michalak Appointed L-W East Principal
Michalak, who has served District 210 for decades, will begin her principal duties July 1.
The Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Sharon Michalak as the new principal of Lincoln-Way East High School at a board meeting on Dec. 13, according to a media release from the district.
Michalak has served Lincoln-Way schools in several capacities throughout her career in education, including her current position as assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and staff development.
Thursday’s decision regarding Michalak followed the announcement that District Superintendent Dr. Lawrence A. Wyllie will retire on June 28 and that current East Principal Dr. Scott Tingley will serve as his replacement.
Michalak will assume principal duties at Lincoln-Way East beginning July 1.
“Sharon, you know that the board and Dr. Wyllie have always believed that our principals are the most important employees in the district,” said Board President Dr. Arvid Johnson, following Michalak’s appointment. “Please know that you have the board’s confidence and support as you assume this new role.”
Michalak holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Illinois, as well as a Master of Education from Governors State University and a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Loyola University.
Prior to her career in education, Michalak worked from 1985-87 as a computer programmer for Continental Bank.
She then went on to teach math at Lincoln-Way Central from 1988-94, before working as assistant principal for curriculum at East for eight years. She took her present assistant superintendent position in 2002.
“I am just very excited to be a part of that school,” said Michalak, of her appointment at Lincoln-Way East. “It’s a new challenge.”
