Q&A: Project Runway's Katelyn Pankoke

The reality TV contestant and up-and-coming bridal designer sat down with Patch to talk fashion, family and what Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are like when the cameras stop rolling.

Chicago fashion designer Katelyn Pankoke recently competed in the eleventh season of the reality show, “Project Runway.” Pankoke, who sold her gowns at Frankfort’s Fiancee Couture long before she made it on the small screen, visited the village last weekend for a trunk show for her bridal line, Elaya Vaughn. Her newest collection, which will also be available at Fiancee Couture, debuts April 7 at the National Bridal Market in Chicago. Pankoke will return to the village April 12 for I Do: Frankfort, a spring bridal event in downtown Frankfort. Free Chicago Museum Admission for Bank of America, Merrill Lynch Members

This weekend, and every first weekend of the month for the rest of the year, all Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders are eligible for free admission to Chicago's top museums.

Good news for all Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders. Your respective financial institutions would like to add some culture to your life. That’s why they’re offering free admission to various Chicago museums to cardholders every first full weekend of the month throughout the rest of the year. They’re kicking it off this weekend, March 2 and March 3 in honor of National Women’s History Month. Just show your bankcard and an ID to the museum admission desk for free access. The deal applies to cardholders, exclusively. Anyone without a Bank of America or Merrill Lynch card will have to pay. The following museums are participating:

New Lenox AMC Movie Times: Feb. 23-24

'Beautiful Creatures,' a movie about young love and dark secrets is playing this weekend.

"Beautiful Creatures" is about the battle between good and evil. In this case, the supernatural powers are unleashed in a small town in the South when a new girl (Alice Englert) moves in. She falls in love with a local boy (Alden Ehrenreich), and together they learn that both of their families have a dark past. For those who like the Twighlight series, this movie is in the same realm—it's young love played out in a non-traditional way. Another reach into the world of the supernatural is "Dark Skies." Mokena Artists to Display Creations at Annual Showcase

The park district's yearly 'Showcase of Art' takes place this weekend.

Local artists will display their work this weekend at the Mokena Community Park District’s annual “Showcase of Art,” according to the district website. The showcase will feature paintings, sculptures and even sandcastles created by park district program participants of all ages. A “Meet the Artists” gallery opening will take place from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 22 at The Oaks Recreation and Fitness Center, where the exhibit will remain open for viewing throughout the weekend. New Lenox AMC Movie Times

'A Good Day to Die Hard,' starring Bruce Willis, is playing this weekend.

Bruce Willis is back with the fifth in the Die Hard series. "A Good Day to Die Hard" in 3D again features the savvy New York cop, but this time the kids are all grown up. The film is set in Moscow, and Willis' character, John McClane, discovers that his son is a well-trained CIA agent. Together, they make for an unstoppable pair of crime fighters.       For those who relish in the fast-action, shoot em up "Die Hard," released in 1988, stop by Mokena Video, 11225 Front St. You can rent the movie for three days. Want to Know What's Playing at the Show, Feb. 8-10?

The 1986 classic, Top Gun-IMAX 3D, starring Tom Cruise, is featured this weekend.

Why not check out the Classic 1986 heart-throb movie, "Top Gun" in 3D. Tom Cruise stars as a smart-aleck Navy pilot name Maverick with pal Goose, starring Anthony Edwards, famed for his role in the television drama, ER (1994-2009), as they progress through flight training school. Lots of inferred romance between Kelly McGillis, a flightschool teacher, and Marverick, who eventually overcomes his lack of confidence.  The in-air flight scenes should be great in 3D. PHOTOS: Mural Unveiling in Downtown Mokena

The latest installation of the Illinois Lincoln Highway mural series was unveiled Saturday on Front Street.

Mokena residents gathered in the parking lot of State Bank of Illinois Saturday morning for the unveiling of the latest mural in the Illinois Lincoln Highway mural series. The mural, which is mounted on the wall of 11104 Front Street in downtown Mokena, depicts the Cooper & Hostert Garage, which was the area’s first Ford dealership and was a part of the Mokena business community for more than 50 years. Mokena’s is the 30th of 35 murals in the series to be unveiled and is the eighth out of nine murals in the Chicago Southland. The series is being facilitated by the Illinois Lincoln Highway Coalition. When completed, the murals will tell the story of Lincoln Highway. The Cooper & Hostert mural is valued at $10,000 and, with the exception of …

Historic Mural to be Unveiled Saturday

The mural, which is located in downtown Mokena, is part of a series facilitated by the Illinois Lincoln Highway Coalition.

A piece of village history will be brought to life on Saturday with the unveiling of the latest mural of the Illinois Lincoln Highway mural series. The mural, which will be located on Front Street in the heart of downtown Mokena, will depict the Cooper & Hostert Garage, which was the area’s first Ford dealership and remained in business for more than 50 years. “It provides a sense of place, a sense of history,” said Assistant Village Administrator Kirk Zoellner. The Mokena Area Historical Society collaborated with the Illinois Lincoln Highway Coalition to determine the mural’s subject. They selected the Cooper & Hostert Garage because of its historical significance to Mokena and its relevance to the highway and to car travel. The garage …

Mokena Resident Starts Jewelry Business

Gina Chinino began selling her handmade bracelets online in October.

When Mokena resident Gina Chinino sees expensive boutique jewelry, she thinks “I can do better.” Chinino started wrist candie, an online business where she sells her handmade bracelets, in October. Her goal in creating wrist candie was to offer a low-cost, college-friendly alternative to high-price boutique items. “She has passion, traction and vision,” said her father, Michael Chinino, in an email to Patch . “When she starts a project she sees it through.” Chinino, who works in consumer marketing for a Chicago public relations firm, began making bracelets during the summer of 2012.
