Effective with the start of the 2012-2013 youth wrestling season, the Falcons Wrestling Club of Frankfort, IL will merged with the Lincoln-Way Wrestling Club of New Lenox.
Head Coach Jim Schloegel of Lincoln-Way Wrestling believes the merger will be a good fit: “We’ve always had a good relationship with the Falcons. Every year we’ve been in the South Chicago Sectional and because of the close distance between the two clubs we see each other a lot during the regular season. This will be a case where 2+2 equals 5 because the level of talent between the two clubs will be greatly enhanced due to the interaction and intra-squad competition that will take place at practices and meets.”
The Falcons initiated the discussions due to the upcoming absence of Falcons Head Coach, Ray Rossi, who will be unavailable until 2013.
“I had a good run for over a dozen years with the Falcons and I’ll come back as an assistant coach.” Coach Schloegel added: “We’re doing this because it’s best for the kids – without a doubt. LWWC has great coaches and kids to compliment the staff and wrestlers at the Falcons.”
“The Falcons have always had families who reside in the Lincoln-Way West and Central areas”, Rossi stated. “When Lincoln-Way East split from Central in 2001 we said that a combined Lincoln-Way that year would have taken the high school state dual title. It didn’t happen then, but we have additional chances now at the kids level.
