By Joe Vince The Mokena Applebee's restaurant is one of at least eight in the Chicago area that could be closing its doors for good thanks to bankruptcy reorganization of its franchisee in Kentucky, the Chicago Tribune reports. AppleIllinois, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy April 22 in Kentucky, is selling its franchise rights and restaurants as part of its reorganization, the report stated. The company owns 33 restaurants in the Chicago area and hopes to sell the rights for most of them to other franchisees, the report continued. The parent company for Kmart wants to lease space in four of the national retailer's Illinois stores, including its Tinley Park location, the Chicago Tribune reports. Sears Holdings Corp., which owns Kmart, is seeking "sub-tenants" to share space at the locations and are not looking to replace or close the stores, the report stated. The effort is part of a move by Sears to "shore up" finances through leasing or selling its real estate holdings, the report continued. Martinizing Dry Cleaning, an environmentally friendly facility, hosted a Family Fun Day May 4. The family-owned, upscale dry cleaners at 19858 S. LaGrange Road, on the border of Mokena and Frankfort, welcomed the community to stop in and say "hello."
