Do you want to do something to make someone's day a little brighter? You might want to join with DoSomething.org and create a birthday card for a kid living in a homeless shelter. One New Lenox woman, Lisa Boatright, has already made her card.
"It's a good way to let kids living in a homeless shelter know that someone cares," she said.
Here's Some Tips from DoSomething.org:
1. Remember, you don’t know who will be receiving your card, so it’s best to make sure that your card could be enjoyed by anyone (of any age or gender).
2. Leave the inside of the card blank so that someone close to the birthday boy or girl can write a personal message and sign their name. Please don't write your own name in the card!
3. Be sure that the card is something that you would want to receive on your own birthday!
4. Get creative! For some card ideas, check out our action guide!
Next snap a photo of yourself actually making the card. Then upload it to DoSomething.org. Then find the address to a homeless shelter near you and mail it off in an oversized envelope.
Daybreak Shelter in Joliet is not currently among the participating organization on the DoSomething.org list of homeless shelters in Illinois, but St. Charles' Lazarus House Ministries, 214 Walnut St., is among the approved recipients. Make sure to address the card "Attention Stella Geiss or Jimmy Rabey."
You can make as many cards as you like.
