Mokena Scout Honored by Frankfort Township for Eagle Project

Twenty-year-old Jordan Brooks, who is legally blind, worked to collect eye glasses for people in need for his project.

Frankfort Township Supervisor Jim Moustis and the Frankfort Township trustees saluted Jordan Brooks’ achievement during the Oct. 15 board meeting.

The 20-year-old from Mokena recently became an Eagle Scout after organizing a project to collect prescription eye glasses for the needy.

Brooks is a member of Boy Scouts Troup 40 of Mokena. The project was a natural choice for him – he was born with aniridia and is legally blind.

Brooks, his family and friends will celebrate the event at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 during the Eagle Scout Court of Honor at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 11100 Second St., Mokena.

Brooks has earned 36 merit badges while in the program, and 12 of them were required to become an Eagle Scout.

Brooks partnered with the Lions Club of Mokena and began collecting unneeded eye glasses from local residents. To make it easier to donate, Brooks arranged for drop-off locations at businesses in Mokena, Frankfort, Orland Park and New Lenox.

“Jordan is another example of the many fine young people in our area,” Moustis said. “He is truly striving for excellence.”
