Health & Fitness

This is where the introduction goes.

I'm a runner/mom/teacher who tries to do all those things at the same time, and sometimes fails and sometimes succeeds.

So, who wants to guess how many times I started typing something for this--my first blog post ever--and eventually deleted the entire thing?  I'll give you a hint: the number of times has exceeded my weekly mileage so far this week.  If it continues this way, by the time I actually post this, the internet will have moved past blogs and be into something else entirely.  Children will be back at school, the ice caps will have melted a little more, and various species of animals will be nearer to extinction, but here I'll sit, finger hovering over the "delete" key.  Why is this so difficult?

I'm pretty bad at introducing myself. It's the part of the first day of school ritual I usually skip, assuming that the last thing in the world a high school student wants to know about is the life of his or her teacher. I just quickly flash some pictures of my dogs, my kids, my husband, and railroad right into asking them about themselves (even though they probably hate introducing themselves as much as I do myself). It's hard because we don't know each other yet, and we're not sure what the other will think is either funny or lame, endearing or weird.

But in writing, teaching, running, and just about every other component of life, sometimes we just have to cannonball in instead of inching down the ladder, and so eventually I'll just have to hit "publish" and be done with it, revealing my New Blog Post for what it is.  And so I should probably give you something to take home, some definitive mission statement about how reading this blog will improve your life and make your hair shinier.

I'm a mom, so sometimes I'll write about kids and everything that goes with them: fruit snacks smashed into the carpet, hilariously misquoted song lyrics, and sweet morning snuggles. I'm a runner, so I'll talk about where I've been and where I'm going and all the awesome races that should fill your summer calendar.  I've been some crazy things in the past, including an actress, a show dog handler, and an astronaut (one of those was a lie; guess which one?) and because I'm also an English teacher I'll probably use weird little stories from those weird little jobs as metaphors to emphasize some other Great Truth Of Life.   But mostly I'll just write whatever has recently occurred to me...and then delete it all...and then type something else.

Right now I'm going to hit "publish," go upstairs and play with my daughters, and go for a run along Old Plank. Enjoy the day!
