In Memory of Lauren: Community Asked to Display Blue Ribbons

Blue ribbons seen tied to trees around town are in honor of a 17-year-old who died last week.

The Mokena community is launching a blue ribbon celebration in remembrance of Lauren Carollo.

Carollo, 17, died suddenly last week after being struck by a train. The manner of death is still under investigation.

Community members ask that residents display blue ribbons in her memory.

"Please change your Facebook profile picture, wear a blue ribbon on your lapel, tie a ribbon on your trees, or display in your home, office or classroom in some way," wrote organizer Raeann Racine.

If only Lauren felt this love before this tragedy, things may have had a different ending. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Please hug your children, make sure they feel the love and kids; stand up to bullys, bullys are kids who also don't feel loved. Peace be with Lauren's family and friends, no parent should have to bury their child. God Bless.

Story says cause of death still under investigation? Prayers to her family, friends, train crew and first responders.
