Mokena Mayor's Charitable Foundation Carnival Returns

Though the carnival usually comes during the summer time, this year's event will take place Oct. 7-10 and will have all the rides, food and fun of years past.

After several stops and starts, the Mokena Mayor's Charitable Foundation Carnival has set a date. Next weekend, Oct. 7-10, the carnival will take place at the Hickory Creek Metra parking lot and will feature rides, games and food for families from Mokena and the surrounding area.

“Typically [the carnival] took place in July or August, it kind of moved around between July, August and September,” Mayor Joe Werner said. “There was one scenario where the carnival was going to take place, but that fell through. At the last minute we found out there was another company that was available and we decided rather than not have one at all, we'd try to do it.”

Though the event is last minute and being held later than in years past, that doesn't mean the fun will be any different for attendees. However, fun isn't the only thing that the carnival offers Mokena residents and the village, Werner said.

“What the carnival does, depending on attendance, now this is where [attendees] come in, is it raises money for local charities,” he said.

Since this year's carnival is coming later in the year and at such a rapid pace, things will be a bit different this year Werner said. There will still be the refreshment tent, rides and food, but local charities are also being offered an opportunity to set up shop and promote their various causes as well.

The carnival will take place Oct. 7, 5-11 p.m., Oct. 8-9, noon-11 p.m., and Oct. 10, noon-8 p.m.
