Mokena Veteran Receives Hero's Welcome

U.S. Marine Cpl. Jack Jacobsen on July 3 received a hero's welcome to Mokena.

U.S. Marine Cpl. Jack Jacobsen, 22, of Mokena, received a royal welcome home July 3. After spending seven months in Afghanistan, he is home safe and sound.

A 2009 Lincoln-Way East High School graduate, he served as a landing support specialist. Jacobsen has another six months left to serve at Camp Pendleton in California before his tour of duty is complete.

His family and an entourage of motorcycle-riding veteran supporters, including the American Lawmen  Motorcycle Club and Warriors' Watch Riders—greeted him as he stepped off the plane at 3:15 p.m. June 3 at Midway International Airport. He was escorted home, riding non-stop in the rain through traffic lights, said his sister, Jen Cait Biz.

Neighbors and well-wishers met him the entourage at the Jacobsen family home, 19541 Blythe Way.

His mom, Jan Jacobsen, said hotdogs, hamburgers and beer were on the menu for super that night. Jacobsen said he was looking forward to participating in the 2013 Mokena Fourth of July parade down Wolf Road.

All smiles, Jacobsen stood with his parents, Jan and Jim Jacobsen, and his sister and brother Jim for photos out in front of the family home.
