JJC Brass and Organ Concert at Historic St. Joseph Church

Joliet Junior College will present “A Celebration of Magnificent Music for Brass and Organ” on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. at the historic St. Joseph Catholic Church, 416 N. Chicago St. in downtown Joliet.

Music selected from four centuries of literature for brass ensemble and pipe organ will be performed by the JJC Brass Quintet, directed by Professor Charles Morgan, with accompaniment from organists Philip Spencer, fine arts professor, and Bonnie Johansen-Werner, fine arts instructor.

The concert, which is part of JJC’s yearlong Musica Viva series, will include classical favorites from composers like Bach, Gigout, Widor, Mahler, and Brahms. According to Morgan, St. Joseph Church has one of Joliet’s largest pipe organs, housed in a magnificent acoustical setting perfect for this type of performance.

The concert is free and open to the public. There will be a free-will offering accepted, which will go toward the restoration fund of the church’s historic building.
