“Out in Front for Mokena Schools: Vote YES for Success!” Rally

On Sunday, March 20th the “Out in Front for Mokena Schools: Vote YES for Success!” Rally will be held in downtown Mokena at Wolf Road and Front Street from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. and will feature bands, children’s entertainment and guest speakers.  Families and citizens of all ages are welcome to attend.

With the Mokena School District 159 making another round of budget cuts, the “Citizens for the 2011 Mokena School District Referendum” committee is hosting the rally to build public awareness to the shortfalls in their community’s educational funding.  The committee, consisting of parents, business leaders and concerned citizens, are organizing the rally to also illustrate unity and support for the value that high quality public education brings to Mokena and the importance of voting “Yes” for the Education Referendum in the upcoming April 5th election.

Proposed on the referendum is a $0.29 increase per $100 of a home’s value.  With this increase in effect, Mokena School District 159 will still maintain the lowest tax rate among all the Lincoln Way K-8 area school districts.
