3rd Dimension Offers Personalized Touch in Fitness

A holistic approach and ongoing personal training make this Mokena health club unique as it celebrates a year in business with a "grand opening."

What’s the third dimension in 3rd Dimension Fitness? Ongoing personal training, according to owner Joe Ranieri.

“What really sets us apart is the training,” said Ranieri, a certified fitness trainer. He opened 3rd Dimension Fitness, 19148 Blackhawk Parkway, one year ago and held a grand opening event May 14.

The 6,500-square-foot facility contains all the standard fitness equipment such as stationary bikes, treadmills, weight machines and free weights. Ranieri and his team of trainers also conduct classes such as pilates, yoga, kickboxing, spinning and body conditioning.

But unlike many clubs that offer only an introductory personal training session, members at 3rd Dimension receive personal training each time they visit the club.

“We actually train members every time they come in,” Ranieri said. Training addresses not only physical fitness but also nutrition, sleep patterns, stress reduction, energy and any special needs, he added.

“We really want to make sure we work holistically,” Ranieri said.

When joining the club, each member undergoes fitness evaluation that considers health history, family history, lifestyle and other factors. Members can work toward their goals through individualized programs that may involve cardiovascular fitness, strength and endurance, balance and coordination and flexibility.

Ranieri has more than 20 years experience as a fitness trainer. He worked for and managed several large corporate fitness clubs before leaving to work on his own about five years ago. He said he prefers working with people on a more personal basis in a smaller club.

“You get to know people, and you can positively affect the outcome of their workouts,” he said. “It’s way more gratifying for me.”

Men and women of all ages, as well as older children and teens, are welcome to work out at the club, Ranieri said. Programs can be adapted for people with health problems or physical limitations, he said.

3rd Dimension has several membership levels and introductory offers. Fitness challenges and events are held periodically.

The club is open from 5 to 11:30 a.m. and 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 5 to 11 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. Friday; 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday; and 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday. Free supervised childcare is available daily 9 to 11 a.m.
