Many shelves were stripped bare Friday as bargain hunters descended on the LaGrange Road Dominick's store in Frankfort, where many items were marked down by 50 percent.

Over-the-counter medicines were gone, as were many toiletry products and paper goods. Milk and other liquid dairy as well as alcoholic beverages are not included in the clearance-sale pricing, though there are steep discounts for six-pack collections of wines.

Lines throughout the day at the checkout were 10-12 customers deep during the workday, a sight usually seen on the weekends.

The store's official closing date is Dec. 28.

I am more concerned about the fact that the retail center where the Dominick's is today is now losing its anchor tenant, and also that a lot of people will be out of a job at the end of this month. I have been a regular customer at Dominick's since moving to Mokena in 1997, and I'm going to miss it very much. The people who work(ed) at that store were awesome, and I am keeping them and their families in my thoughts and pray that they find new jobs soon. Shame on Safeway for first running Dominick's into the ground, then selling it because they needed a tax write-off for some other grocery chain they sold recently.

Yes, I did stock up , as a loyal Dominick s customer for 15 years. I am really angry about the store closing , and how Safeway treated the most loyal , kind employees there are.
