A Massive Moo-ve for Elsie the Cow

Moo-ve over Frankfort, Elsie the cow has a new home at The Creamery in Mokena.

Following the closure of , many were left wondering where the giant cow would next call home. On May 15, the mascot was towed from the Homer Glen home of William McEnery to her new permanent residence in Mokena.

“This was kind of my first pick. This is one of our bigger sites, our busiest site, and a lot of people will be able to see her,” said Billy McEnery, owner of McEnery Enterprises. “She definitely fits in well.”

On-hand for the move were Mokena Mayor Joe Werner, Mokena trustee Don Labriola, Village Clerk Patricia Patt and Assistant Village Administrator Kirk Zoellner, along with members of the McEnery family and several residents. The relocation took just over an hour to complete and utilized a 70-ton crane and Airline Towing, Inc.

“She's got a new home and hopefully she's got at least another 40 years here,” McEnery said.

To celebrate Elsie's relocation, all Creamery stores in the area sold Root Beer Floats, called “black cows,” at half price.

Werner said that it was a great to have a local icon moving into the village.

“I think it's fantastic, it is a great icon,” Werner said. “It's very fitting, Mokena has a rich history of dairy industry. … In retrospect, from a historical standpoint, there's a nice connection there. I think it's also an icon of a great company, that continues to do very well here in Mokena.”
