Mokena Business Runs Afoul of Better Business Bureau

On its website, Eco Improvement lists its Better Business Bureau accreditation and grade, an A+. But the BBB says Eco Improvement is rated as an F and not accredited with the BBB.

A Mokena business touting the highest possible rating with the Better Business Bureau isn't exactly being honest, the organization told Patch.

Eco Improvement, 12860 W. 184th Place, boasts an A+ rating on its website. the BBB. But the bureau states the businesss is not accredited and actually holds an F rating. A review posted on the company's website, "appears to be from the BBB but it is, in fact, an imitation of a copyrighted BBB Business Review," the bureau states.

"While this fictitious business review alleges that Eco Improvement is a BBB-accredited business with an A+ rating, Eco Improvement is not accredited and currently holds a F rating," according to an article posted on the Better Business Bureau's website.

Eco Improvement spokesman Stanley Kostik said that the issue is simply a mix-up or the BBB trying to get more money from the business.

“We didn't have a problem with this last year,” Kostik said. “It looks like they want to make more money, so they're looking for money from Eco.”

For the BBB's part, the group has already notified Eco Improvement to stop using the BBB's logo and rating.

"We contacted Eco Improvement of Mokena, Illinois with our concerns," said Steve J. Bernas, president & CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Chicago and northern Illinois, in the release. "In addition, we sent the business correspondence demanding it immediately cease misleading consumers with inaccurate information that illegally uses the Better Business Bureau name and logo.”

Kostic said that he was aware of the BBB's letter to the business, but that he was unsure why the business received it.

He said that previously the business was issued the same grade as its parent company, Midwest Concrete. Kostic added that he was unsure why the BBB did not grade the two businesses together again, but said he felt it was a misunderstanding.

As of Monday, Eco Improvement's website was unavailable.
