UPDATE: Mokena Chamber of Commerce Warns Members of Mail Fraud

Dave's Auto received a package Thursday that contained magnets claiming to be 'distributed by the Mokena Chamber of Commerce.' Chamber President Lee Kaz said it wasn't so.

The Mokena Chamber of Commerce is alerting local businesses to a mail scam.

Chamber President Lee Kaz said the owner of Dave's Auto in Mokena received a UPS package from a company called Universal AdCom containing 25 ad magnets and a bill for $250 Thursday, though she told him she had not ordered the magnets. The magnets (pictured) say they are "distributed by the Mokena Chamber of Commerce."

"We have not had any communication with this company nor did we sign any agreements for them to solicit using our name," Kaz wrote in an initial e-mail to Mokena Patch.

Friday, Kaz said the chamber did have a prior agreement with Universal AdCom to distribute magnets without cost. However, the agreement did not include permission to include the chamber's name on the magnets.
