The Winner of the Mokena/Frankfort Pizza Poll Is...

We asked readers to review their favorite pizza spots to say who would face off in the next round of the all-Southland Pizza Playoffs competition. Here's what they said (and who won).

To find the most-loved pizza in Mokena and Frankfort for Patch's Pizza Playoffs competition, we relied on the highest available level of polling technology, proprietary software to count the influx of votes we received on .

Of course, it messed up completely during a site update, devouring thousands of votes and randomly resetting other businesses' tallies.

So to something machine error can't touch—the words and opinions of our readers. Every new review written between 5:50 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. yesterday on a pizza place's Patch Places directory listing counted as a vote for our representative in the battle royale for most-loved south suburban pizza.

With 15 new reviews filed yesterday alone, the winner is... Frankfort's !

In what pizza scientists are calling "a heartbreaker," the Mokena location of came in with 14 new reviews, one shy of Palermo's winning tally.

We're heading to Palermo's to shoot a video of pie prep and owner interviews about what makes their slices so good. We'll take that to the next round of the Pizza Playoffs.

In the meantime, check out some of the great reviews our readers left:

Just stopped there again last Friday for carry out. Great pizza and service with a smile! Had to sneak a corner before I got home because the smell was just too tempting.

First off the bat, I want to send a huge, heartfelt thank you to Patch for having a pizza contest for all the southland suburbs. Thanks to you, I was reunited earlier tonight with a delicious Villa Rosa Pizza that was so very dear to me since the late 70's or early 80's at the old 82nd and Kedzie in Chicago restaurant. They ruled then, and they still do today. I had truly lost touch to where they went because in between I lived in Milwaukee for 15 yrs. (Milwaukee has many pizza places that rock, too!)

Thanks so much to the employees at Tony's Villa Rosa in Mokena. They were so nice and the service was great. So do treat yourself to a decent pizza for a change. This is it. They haven't changed their recipe, it is as it was then. That alone is a thrill because so many of our favorite pizzas have sadly changed their recipes so it's not even recognizable. Rest assured, Tony's Villa Rosa still has the bestest unique crust...delicious sausage...great tasting cheese, and the sauce is nice, too. You must try it too! I have leftovers for tomorrow, too.

Happy Valentine's day to one and All.

Our family is so happy that Pizza Mia has opened in Frankfort. We have been looking for good pizza in the area since we moved here from Chicago 20 years ago and it's here. Great pizza and the broasted chicken is fantastic. Friday nights is Pizza Mia night in our house.

No pizza can compare to Tony's in Frankfort Square (And we have eaten them all!) The crust cheese and sauce are all fresh and flavorful. We try others but keep coming back here!

There are tons more comment (37 from yesterday's voting and 53 overall for our 10 contestants). Read them all and add your own.
