Storm Causes Thousands to Lose Power in L-W Communities

The thunderstorms that roared through the Lincoln-Way communities early Monday evening left more than 4,000 customers in the dark. Damaging winds knocked down power lines and left a trail of destruction in its path. Mostly trees and limbs were knocked downed. 

Last week's storm left some of Mokena's residents off of 191st Street in the dark for 17 hours.

The ComEd outage map revealed that 1,344 customers in New Lenox in the area north of Francis Road and east of Parker Road lost power, and another 1,100 were out at Joliet Highway and Lake. In Mokena, more than 1,000 customers were out at one point in the area around 195th Street just west of Wolf Road and another 475 were out in the Riivendell subdivision off Schoolhouse Road and Francis Road. Frankfort Square reported more than 1,000 customers out in the area west of 80th avenue near Route 30.

Scattered outages affecting anywhere from 5-50 customers were reported around the region.

The outage map was updated every half hour. By 11 p.m.,  many of the customers had regained power; however, the areas hit the hardest were still in the dark.

• "I have no power since ten minutes to six tonight...ComEd says they have no time frame till after 6am......grrrr...."

•  "Any idea of when it's supposed to be on? We have had no power for over 5 hours."

 Mokena:

• "I hope for their sake it is 2am. a couple weeks ago we were without power for 17 hrs."

• "i got full power downtown mokena..hawks!!!"

• "Go Hawks!!!"

• "Power up at 192nd and 115th. Hope it stays on this time. It teased us an hr ago."

• "Power back on, 2nd St just East of Wolf."

 Frankfort:

• "Guess we got lucky!!"
• "East side of 80th all good...."
