Village Crews Still Working to Clear 104th Avenue Thursday

Nearly all roads were clear Thursday morning, but crews were still working to clear the stretch of 104th Avenue between Camden Court and 187th Street.

Though nearly every road, subdivision and cul-de-sac in Mokena has been made passable, crews were still working to clear a portion of 104th Avenue between 187th Street and Camden Court at noon on Thursday. The street had been blanketed with extremely high drifts on Tuesday night when the snowstorm first hit.

Village Administrator John Downs said because that stretch of 104th doesn't serve any driveways or intersections and tends to have low traffic, it was closed until crews could get to it. "The drifts were so bad, we couldn't keep up with it," Downs said. Village crews eventually abandoned the stretch to keep from getting behind in plowing other areas.

Village crews on the site Thursday said they expected 104th to be clear by mid-afternoon. The large, unobstructed field across from the intersection of 104th and 187th could have been a factor in the snow accumulating on the street, Downs said.
