A History of Mokena School District  1818-1978, Presented by Robert Horras, Mokena Historian and Collector

Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 1:00-2:00 p.m.

This
presentation will describe how the Mokena School District was formed
and had its beginnings even before the Village of Mokena was founded.
The talk will reveal how the school district grew  from 2 ½ square miles
with 26 students in 1847, to  more than 12 ½ square miles in 1978 with
over 1000 students on a multi school campus. It will also reveal where
the first school building was located, when the Mokena High School was
formed and dissolved, why and when Mokena got its first school bus, how
the district   became 159, and other interesting facts from the history
of Mokena Schools.

There
will be a display of Mokena School pictures and memorabilia. Everyone
attending will receive a color picture of the 1872 school house.
