St. John’s Youth Volunteer at Interfaith House

On Monday, November 11th, a group of 20 youth and adults prepared and served lunch to 60 residents of Interfaith House.  Interfaith House is a 64-bed facility in Chicago’s Garfield Park neighborhood that provides a healing environment and resources to help ill and injured homeless adults restore their health, rebuild their lives and regain self-sufficiency.  Since opening its doors in the mid-90s, Interfaith House has served over 6,600 homeless men and women. Most of the residents come directly from a hospital or clinic to this facility.

Our group worked in the kitchen, preparing chicken salad stuffed tomatoes, turkey sandwiches with spinach and cranberry chutney, and pumpkin yogurt parfaits.  After serving lunch, the teenagers played prize Bingo with the residents.  It was a fun blessing to all involved and our youth enjoyed the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those in need.
