Boy Scout Food Drive This Saturday

The Boy Scouts will start a food drive Saturday.

Submitted by Gayle Wolcott

The Boy Scouts of America was founded in 1910 because of a “good turn” performed by an unknown English Scout for publisher William D Boyce, who was lost in a London fog. Because of this single act of kindness performed by a Scout who sought no reward other than to perform a "good turn," millions of youth have received the benefit of a Scouting experience since that time. The "good turn” has been a Scouting tradition since those early days.

There is a critical need to instill in American youth, of all socio-economic levels, the ethic of service to the less fortunate and to teach them the values related to social responsibility. Through Scouting for Food Good Turn, these values are reinforced by our Cub Scout Packs 101 and 237, Boy Scout Troops 10 and 237, and Venturing Crew 237 and our local Girl Scout unit.

The 2013 Scouting for Food Drive will take place on two consecutive weekends in November beginning this weekend. On Saturday, the scouts will be distributing empty bags with a suggested list of items in need  The following weekend on Sunday, Nov. 10, the scouts will return beginning at 10 a.m. to collect your donations. Your support will benefit the Frankfort Township Food Pantry, Together We Cope, and local families in need.

The scouts will be distributing the bags through the Frankfort Square area, the Brookside Glen area and part of Mokena.
