Oak Fest 2012: The Longest—(and Best?)—Yet

Oak Fest will last 7 days this year—the longest it has ever run. But after what some might call a rocky stint last year, is this a good idea? You tell us.

Get ready, . You're in for the Oak Fest to top all Oak Fests this summer.

The 2012 festival will span seven days—June 28 through July 4—making it the longest in the event's history. And there are rumors of a circus.

Yep. A circus.

But after what some might call a tumultuous run last year, some residents might be skeptical of the city's decision to extend the event. Last year's event atmosphere was punctuated with news of , followed by a

Last year, Patch spoke with , who said despite the instances, Oak Fest is truly safe for all those who attend. Officers are circulating through the crowds and around the grounds, Anderson said, keeping an eye out for those who might provoke a situation.

Some residents were unimpressed by last year's carnival, but bands like  and  brought out the crowds. And don't forget the food and fun—like a .

They should rename it "Beer Fest". Fewer and fewer food vendors each year, fewer bands but more alcohol. A recipe for more problems.

It would be nice to have something other than Hayes Distributing and Miller beer.

I know the group I am affiliated with gets a lot of Oak Fest hours and that funding has helped us sustain a terrific program at OFHS!! We'll be working there as long as we can! I love going to the Fest!

Oak Fest needs more food vendors, there is not enough to draw people. They need more variety. Plus the food vendors are not making enough money to justify the app fee they have to pay, so they need to make it more appealing with variety for adults and teens.

I am a Oak Forest Resident, I also am a vendor at various fairs throughout Illinois and Indiana. I would love to do oak fest but every year I go I don't see how the vendors can be making any money. I tried to get in one year, and no-one returned my calls, or answered my email. This is a great fest but needs some adjustments to the food vendor court and where it is located, It also needs a bit more variety. Same thing at the St. Christopher Fiesta. I did that one last year and lost money, it was horrible, people only drink there, so sad!! I make homemade, fresh cut deep fried vegetables, Pickles and onion pedals. I wish Oak Fest Much Success. Maybe some Day I will be a vendor there :)
