'The Blues Brothers' Shopping Mall Chase Scene As You've Never Seen It Before — in Legos

You'll watch this a couple of times with a smile on your face. Quite the homage to a quintessential piece of Chicago lore and Southland history.

"We're on a mission from God."

Duncan McConchie, who produced this painstaking stop-motion Lego re-enactment of The Blues Brothers' classic shopping mall car chase, must've had those words running through his mind as he produced this delightful video short based on the 1980 musical comedy, a John Landis film starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.

Of course, folks in Chicago know all roads in The Blues Brothers lead Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues to the Southland. That scene was shot in the now-demolished Dixie Square Mall, near 151st Street and Dixie Highway in Harvey.

The mall closed in 1978. A year later, Universal Pictures paid $12,500 to trash the decrepit and shuttered mall for the famous scene. A Jewel and a Walgreen's had closed just before filming began. Demolition began in 2006 but wasn't finished until 2012.
