Matt Lulinski, 18, died suddenly March 3 of a torn aorta, Sun-Times Media reports.
The night prior to his death, the freshman at Eastern Illinois University, called 911 because he was suffering chest pains, according to the report. He later called his parents from a hospital in Charleston, Ill.
It was the last time they would speak to him.
"With no cardiologist on duty late Saturday night," Lulinski could "not be stabilized in time to be airlifted to a St. Louis hospital," his father Tom Lulinksi told Sun-Times Media. He died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday.
Lulinski was a 2012 graduate of Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox. Friends at EIU held a memorial service in his name Wednesday.
Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. March 8 at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 Wolf Road, Mokena. He is the son of Tom and Marianne Lulinski. To leave a tribute, visit the Vandenberg website.
