I Love Mokena: Reader Wants Spicier Market Options

One of those comments came from Mokena resident Sharon White.

Here is what Sharon had to say:

"I like our French Market and would like to see herbs and spices... that you could buy in any quantity you need. Too often, I buy a bottle, not needing to use all of the spice, then end up throwing it out because the expiration date has passed. I would be willing to pay a little more to be able to buy just what I need. Love the Amish foods, bakery, fruits and vegetables that are usually there. I have never been to Erbert and Gerbert's Sandwich Shops so could not recommend them, but any shop to help downtown Mokena would be great. A shop that would attract commuters, either before they go to work or coming home, would also be good... some place that would offer quick service and take out."

Great comments, thank you Sharon. Your thoughts are very indicative of many other suggestions that we have received. In general, most of the requests dealing with the French Market focus on the desire for greater diversity in the type of merchants that set up shop at on the Saturdays when the market is open.

Interesting fact:Brothers Theo and Karl Albrecht are in the grocery business.Theo owns Trader Joe's USA operation and Karl owns Aldi. Although they've gone to great lengths to prove the two are separate entities there is a common belief both are owned by the same company.
