By now, you've probably clicked on a few stories, found a few listings and looked at a few events or announcements on this site. I'm hoping your initial thought was "hey, this is kind of cool," but in reality, it was probably more along the lines of "what the heck is this thing?"
Simply put, Mokena Patch is an online news and information source for the Mokena community. You can expect to read daily, if not hourly, updates on village and school news, check out our local sports coverage and find interesting, entertaining features. In this way, we are a lot like an online newspaper.
But in a lot of ways, we are not.
We want our readers to be involved with the site beyond sitting there and reading what we think is important. We also want to know what you think is important. Maybe you recently got engaged and would like to announce the good news on our site. Or perhaps your church or charitable organization is hosting a fish fry you'd like to let people know about. Maybe you know an extraordinary individual in town you think deserves to be profiled (our volunteer column, Good Neighbors, will make its debut later this week).
Wait, there's more. Mokena Patch offers a business directory like no other in the area. Businesses, restaurants, schools, government offices, you can find them in our comprehensive directory. Business owners and others who run organizations can claim their listings, too.
At Patch, we aim to serve the community by providing accurate and interesting information on news and events that are relevant and important to Mokena. By getting involved, you can give us a better idea of what matters and how we can better cover the community.
Don't be shy about reaching out. You can email news tips, story ideas, recipes and thoughts on the latest "House" episode to firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at 708-275-5362.
