2 People Die in Mokena House Fire Wednesday Morning

Police officer taken to Silver Cross Hospital for smoke inhalation.

An elderly Mokena couple died in a Wednesday morning house fire. A police officer tried to rescue them from the burning home, but the flames and smoke were overwhelming. The police officer was taken to Silver Cross Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The couple was in their 80s, according to officials. One person was found in a bedroom and the other was found near the front of the house in the 19600 block of Catalpa Road near Magnolia. The fire department was called at about 3:20 a.m.
