According the report, the store's burglar alarm was ineffective because the telephone system had recently been changed. The newly selected telephone system was incompatible with the already established burglar alarm system.

Police said they came upon the scene of the crime shortly before 9 a.m. and found broken glass. After the store owner and a handful of employees arrived to take inventory, a complaint was filed for the theft of 254 cartons of cigarettes.
