A former volunteer gymnastics coach for Lincoln-Way District 210 has pleaded not guilty to charges of sex with a student.

Isaac Kruspe, 20, of Mokena, has been charged with criminal sexual assault of a minor under the age of 17 and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor from a position of trust.

Kruspe appeared in court Thursday via video feed from Will County Jail; he is currently being held on $250,000 bail.

"Kruspe met the victim, a female juvenile, through his volunteer coach work with Lincoln-Way West gymnastics," said New Lenox Deputy Police Chief Robert Pawlisz.

Police were alerted to the alleged sex crimes March 10 and went to Lincoln-Way West High School to investigate, Pawlisz said.

Kruspe volunteered for the District 210 co-op gymnastic program from Dec. 13, 2013 to March 10, 2014. He passed the American Sport Education Program test and received his certificate of completion. He also passed a criminal background check by both the state and federal governments, according to a statement from Stacy Holland, Director of Community Relations for District 210.

Kruspe competed as a Lincoln-Way gymnast. In the 2010 Frankfort Boys Gymnastics Sectional, he won the floor exercise, still rings, high bar and all around competitions, according to the IHSA.

His next court date is set for May 15.

Feel sorry for this guy. Gotta wonder why they allow someone so close to the students age to coach. Bound to happen.
