DETOUR: July Fourth Festivities To Force Road Closures

Even though the day is all about fun in the sun, patriotism and fireworks, those things come at a cost: road closures throughout the village.

The Fourth of July in Mokena features , and to wrap up the day. The fun comes at a cost, though—the closure of several roads in the village throughout the day.

Starting at 8:30 a.m. La Porte Road will be closed between Schoolhouse Road and Center Street, for the staging of the parade.

Mokena Police Commander Dan Rankovich added that the parade route, which starts at the intersection of Schoolhouse and La Porte roads to Wolf Road and then to 191st Street. The parade route closures will last until about 1 p.m.

The parade will also force partial closures along Wolf Road from 7 to 8 a.m., to allow for the placement of barricades.

La Porte Road will also be closed following the fireworks display at Main Park. According to Rankovich, thru traffic will be diverted to allow for cleanup and transport of fireworks.
