Wrangling Cattle In The Suburbs

Sept. 19: Cops in New Lenox got to play cowboys when a small herd of cattle escaped from a farm.

Police Chief Bob Sterba said the 15 cows apparently escaped from a farm in the 600 block of North Cooper Road through a gate that was either left opened or broken. The herd wandered over to nearby Sanctuary Point subdivision along Marley Road and into Sanctuary Golf Course, 485 N. Marley Road.  

Police were called and found plenty of evidence—hoof prints and manure—in the area, but no cows. About an hour later, they got a call that some cows had been spotted at Cedar Road and Wood Street, and a little while later some were wandering on Francis Road, according to the Sun-Times Media.

After a report that the cows were seen about 6 a.m. grazing at Sanctuary Golf Course, police called in some expert wranglers to rustle up some of the cows and bring them home safely.

That’s Just Not Appropriate

Sept. 15: Police arrested an Oak Lawn man they say was masturbating in front of traffic because he wanted to be committed to a mental health hospital.

Taj S. Ado, 24, of the 97000 block of Pulaski Road, was charged with disorderly conduct and public indecency, according to a police report.

Evergreen Park police received multiple calls at around 1:40 p.m. about a man who had pulled down his pants and underwear in public near the intersection of 97th Street and Pulaski Road. When cops arrived, they found the half-nude man continuing to touch himself on the corner.

Ado told cops that he was trying to get himself into a mental health facility, the report states.

Too Hot For Pet

Aug. 28: When will people learn not to leave their pets locked in hot cars?

A 68-year-old Chicago man was ticketed for leaving his dog inside a hot car at the Orland Square Mall.

An animal control officer was called at about noon at the mall, 288 Orland Square Dr., for a dog locked in a car with all the windows up, according to an Orland Park police report.

The officer found a gray Chevy Malibu with the dog inside, the report states.

Police spoke with mall security, who said the dog already had been in the car for about 45 minutes, the report states. It took the dog owner another 45 minutes after that to return to the Malibu.

The owner opened the car and police used a temperature gun to determine that the interior temperature was 98 degrees.

Police issued a municipal ticket to the Chicago man for illegally confining the dog inside a car.
