Hungry Shopper Arrested in New Lenox Berkot's: Cops

A New Lenox man was arrested for allegedly refusing to pay for food he took off the shelves of Berkot's supermarket and ate in the store.

A New Lenox man refused to pay for food he plucked from the shelves of Berkot's supermarket and ate in the store, police said.

Anthony Kronenberger, 34, of 2277 Scotsglen Drive was charged with retail theft in connection with the Jan. 20 incident at the Calistoga Drive store.

An officer sent to the Berkot's was told "Kronenberger came into the store and started eating food from the shelf," police said. "Employees informed Kronenberger that he would have to pay for the food that he ate, but he refused."

Kronenberger was released after posting bond.
